Susan Swanton is an experienced physical performer, choreographer and actor / musician.
Susan joined The Hairy Marys all-female, cult, comedy theatre company (1989 - 1997) whilst gaining her BA in Performing Arts at Middlesex University and performed in over twelve productions. Susan became a core-member writing, devising and choreographing their own original work and commissioning physical theatre directors such as Wendy Houstourn of DV8 Theatre Company.
Susan is a flexible performer and rises to meet the challenges presented by each project, for example: -
- Learning and training in web rope (an aerial circus act) for the role of the Roly Poly Bird in the No. 1 tour of ‘The Twits’.
- Mask work and puppetry for an international tour of ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’.
- Choreographing the Black Bottom and a fusion of Spanish, Irish and tap for ‘Sherlock Holmes in Trouble’ at the Royal Exchange, Manchester; and
- Playing the flute and other musical instruments for Redshift Theatre Company’s tour of ‘Nicholas Nickleby’ and ‘The Jungle Book’ at Chester Gateway.
Susan’s experience and interests lie in new writing, comedy, physical theatre, choreography, devised theatre and ensemble playing.
